Far beyond basic "Drivers Ed," we teach safe driving habits for life.
As a parent, you want your teen to be safe when driving. While most high schools offer standard Driver's Ed programs, these often fall short in preparing new drivers for the complexities and unexpected situations they'll face. That's where our New Driver Essentials Class at Burgess Driving School steps in.
Beyond the Basics: Defensive Driving for Lifelong Safety
Our class isn't about teaching the rules of the road—those classes and study guides are readily available through local schools and online resources. Instead, we focus on the critical aspect of defensive driving—how to stay safe even when others are driving dangerously.
Defensive driving goes far beyond following traffic laws; it’s about employing safe driving habits, anticipating potential hazards and making safe decisions to avoid accidents. These skills, once ingrained, become second nature and can significantly reduce the risk of accidents caused by other drivers' errors.
Real-World Scenarios: Preparing for the Unexpected
During the six hours we spend in the classroom, we cover a range of real-world scenarios that are often overlooked in traditional Driver's Ed:
Roadside Emergencies: What to do, including where and where not to pull over if your car breaks down or you’re involved in a minor accident.
Adverse Weather Conditions: Techniques for handling Florida’s frequent rainstorms and fog, but we also touch on extreme weather, including how to drive in winter.
Unusual Situations: Navigating through unexpected obstacles or understanding how to react when another driver behaves unpredictably.
Comprehensive Curriculum for Holistic Learning
Our three-day class is structured to provide an immersive learning experience:
Common Driving Mistakes: Identifying and avoiding the pitfalls that new drivers frequently encounter.
Diverse Driving Environments: Skills for residential, city, highway, and rural driving.
Roundabouts and Intersections: Safe navigation of complex and hazardous traffic situations.
The "Safety Bubble" Concept: How to constantly build a safe distance from other vehicles to mitigate risks.
Value-Added Benefits: More Than Just a Class
For $295, the New Driver Essentials Class offers tremendous value. Included in the price are:
Two Free Driving Lessons: Hands-on practice that reinforces the concepts learned in class. These Tallahassee driving lessons can be scheduled at your convenience. Plus, we come to you - free pick up and drop off is included.
10% Discount on Additional Lessons: Continued learning at a reduced rate. Class attendees receive a discount code for use on additional driving lessons.
Building Confidence and Rapport
Taking this class before starting behind-the-wheel lessons allows new drivers to familiarize themselves with our instructors and the terminology used during lessons. This pre-lesson interaction helps create a relaxed learning environment, making the transition to actual driving smoother and more effective.
Convenient Scheduling with Flexible Options
We understand the busy schedules of today’s teens. That’s why we offer two time slots to accommodate sports, after school activities, and family time at home:
Afternoon Classes: 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Evening Classes: 6 PM - 8 PM
Our classes operate on a waiting list basis. Signing up for the waiting list is free, and you’ll be contacted as soon as a class slot becomes available during the time you prefer. We are currently booking classes about 3 months in advance.
